Yet another to add to the pissed off list...

Just had my 2010 Specialized Pitch Pro stolen from Tafe in East Perth.
Bastards cut through steel cable chain to take it.
The bike is visually unique.
It was a "test bike" so its BRIGHT RED (not a normal colour).
It had a bright orange Race Face bash guard, "woodland cammo" Funn fatboy bars (different from the photo), and a number of aftermarket mods.
I also hand painted the "PITCH PRO" logo in gold.
There can't be many of these getting around

Fingers crossed someone else catches up with them before me!

One very unhappy bike nut, without a bike ....

Nice one!!

So - what was the link - how did cashies know the bike was hot, and how did the cops know to call you? Engraved or something?

Still need to clarify that one.
They said it took them a while to find my details? All i did was leave a very detail description of stickers, and after market parts. They never even got the serial number from me.
The only thing i can come up with, was the bike was taken to cashies straight after it was nicked, so there wouldn't have been any info of it been stolen yet.
I will check with the cops, but i think they send a description of the stolen bike to cashies after it is reported.
I will be heading out to get a "couple" of lotto tickets this morning!!!
Now just have to wait till Wednesday to see if my baby is still in perfect condition.

I spoke to the cops yesterday about getting my bike back, and got some interesting feedack.
I asked if they needed some photos of my bike to confirm it was mine, and mentioned that they were posted on this site. They said that they had already seen the photos on PMBC and that was how they identified the bike was stolen, not from the police report i had made.
It seems someone at cash converters (not sure which one yet) is using our forum to check if bikes have been stolen.
There does seem to be some good, honest people out there.
Thank you cashies (whoever you are).

After a previous experience of having low life theiving people stealing things and finding most of the items at Cashies, I pretty sure that cashies hold onto traded items for a short period of time before they can sell these items. This gives the honest people time to make a report after discovering a theft to police in regard to the stolen items. There are good people out there.

Can you tell us the "Steel Cabled Chain" you were using as it might serve as a warning to others using the same. Had my bike pinched from uni years ago. Took some advice from others and from that point always used two different types of locks in situations where my bike was locked at the same location as those are the situations where thieves can scope the bike out. That way they can't use the same technique on both (or at least it is very hard).

So Chain like this:

combined with:

Not necessarily that brand but making your U-Lock as tight as possible is important to stop them getting something inside the loop to leverage it open. (not going to say what they use on a public forum but it doesn't work with a chain).

yes Mr. Spirals, do tell us of the chain you used!!!it was so effective, i would like to purchase one Sticking out tongue

Not sure which brand it was, but it was this style of lock...(the coil cable lock --- doberman style combo lock (second line)

Just had a couple of "boys in blue" hand deliver my pride and joy in the back of a paddy wagon.
I will be giving her a thorough look over shortly, but she looks fine.

They said it was taken to cashies on St Georges Tce, where it was traded. One of the girls there checked our site and matched it.
They police are going to charge the f..kwit with fraud and theft. They have their details, and footage on film.

Will be going out next week to find a more reliable lock, and won't be taking my bike into tafe again....

I got a call from the cops on my way to work this morning (minor moment of pannic trying to think what i might be getting busted for???????), no need to worry.
The kind copper that sorted out getting my bike back, was just phoning to let me know that the SCUM had had his day in court, and had been charged....YEEEEEHHHHHAAAAAA..

He copped a $800 fine (why should the goverment get that? It was my bike that got stolen????) and 80 hours community service.

Made for a nice start to my day

Lucky you getting your bike back. Was it damaged in any way? Glad to hear your good news. Do you think it was because you had some unique stuff on your bike to make it stand out from others?

Downward Spirals's picture

There wasn't a scratch on it.
The only issue i had came on the first ride out on the trails. I had cheched over the whole bike, but did'nt look at the rebound setting for the rear shock.
Someone had turned the rebound to the fastest setting....
Had a few small jumps along the trails, and thought it felt a little different (but not enough to get off and check), whent off the larger jump on Kali circuit (betwwen be trees as you pop out at the Camel Farm), went big and sweet.... next thing i knew i was sprawled out face down in the dirt. The bastard had just bounced me back over the bars.
What helped them identify the bike, was all the custom aftermarket components that i had fitted.
Bright orange Race Face bash guard, the gold paint i had put on the "Pitch" logo, and the Woodland Camo Funn bars, and the Race Face stickers on the frame.
Some times it works your way to be a little different...

badchef's picture

i've seen you go over the bars before, it had nothing to do with rebound:P next thing you'll be saying the wind blew you off a jump and thats why you stacked it!!!!!!!!
