It could be one of a number of things.

Your bars could be too low and you put too much weight on your hands. You might not have enough core strength to support your body properly.

Equally likely is that your bars have either too much, or not enough sweep. I have this same problem on my 29er, and found that riding with bar ends fixed it up. Clearly this is not a long term solution, so I'll have to buy new bars at some point.

Your grips may also be too small. A lot of people like those grips with the wide area for your palm, and this will probably stop the pins and needles.

This is a matter close to my heart (or neck - I have a compressed nerve exacerbated by riding) as was sat in a neurosurgeon's office this morning Sad

Obviously this doesn't make me an expert, but am curious, do you have any other symptoms? Swelling/numbness/etc? Is it both hands? How long after you finish riding before you get normal feeling?

Have you been to you LBS or local bike fitting expert to discuss your position on the bike? A trip to see a GP or physio might not go amiss either.

things that you can adjust: seat forward or backwards. Seat height. Handle bar angle or riser bars. Angle of brakes and gears. Arms should have slight bend in them. Wrist should not be bent but straight. Then lastly are you gripping the grips on your rides i know i do when i get tense when on technical downhill section. i get it when riding for long distances and my hands are in the same position for some time. Friend uses those wider drin grips.

Front shockies set too hard, tyre pressure too high?

once it comes i am able to manage it by regularly taking my hands off the bars and shaking them out.

i am aware of the core issues but rock climbing should take care of that!!

it may be it my position as i feel the pressure on the outside of my hand when i ride.

i have gone to a wider bar and lowered it slightly. improvement has come. the only time i got pins and needles last time was about 2/3 of the way down the new downhill off gunjin.

i have some new grips on order. i looked at some specialized body something or other gloves that have gel in the palms... the only problem is they do not make a glove big enough to fit my hands!!

thanks for all the advice... i shall be trying it!

I know body position/setup is a huge part but when I had the similar I changed to a set of Oury Lock-on grips and got a pair of the Ground Effect Short finger gloves.

I know the GE gloves have changed styles but I found that the padding on the palm combined with the Oury's made all the problems go away.....

Ive only just started to experience pins and needles in the left outer palm. Riding a Giant Trance X2 and my mates think the bars are too narrow and I do feel a little cramped (perhaps leaning too much on the outside of the wrists), so Ive opted for a wider bar at 735mm to help flatten out my hands. Im also just getting over bruising on the upper left arm as well which could be associated with rocky riding? but not too sure. Hopefully it will improve as the C2C is just around the corner!

Good luck
