Saturday, 24 March, 2012 (All day)

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

4 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Ride Database Entry:
Kalamunda Mountain Bike Trails
Meeting Point:

The Camel Farm is a tourist attraction (you could hit the trails on a camel instead of your regular steed if you want). There is parking and a cafe there - and mountain bikers are openly welcome to use their facilities. The Kalamunda Circuit basically runs through the place!
Head down Paulls Valley Rd, which comes off of Mundaring Weir Rd on the left not too far out of Kalumunda.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

To celebrate the completion of the Kalamunda Circuit, WAMBA are organising an opening party on Saturday 24th March.

This event will be held in-conjunction with Cycle Instead Bikeweek.

We are still at the planning stage at the moment, but hope to hold all or some of the following:

- Guided rides on the trail
- Skills clinics
- Mechanics clinics
- Trade Expo
- Opening ceremony (with VIPs)
- Sausage sizzle

If you would like to help out at this event, whether it be with the organisation or simply as a ride guide, drop me an email:

More details will be posted here when we get them.

Doesn't this date clash with the PMBC Points Series to be held at Jarrahdale? I would think a few riders would like to be in that round and attend the opening. Perhaps they can finish the race in the morning and attend the opening later in the day. I'd like to be there, but I will be in Canberra participating in the Mont 24 hour enduro race! I'm sure it will be a great day.

Drat, I forget to check the race calendar - I figured it would be too early in the year for races.

Will have a think and get back to you. This clash is not ideal.

Will the Kalamunda circuit actually be finished and officially signed by then or is this not important?

agustafreeride's picture

Im sure its to just coincide with bikeweek and to get new people out on the tracks.

Ok, we're going to go with Saturday 24th March. I know Saturdays are not ideal for everyone, and it is the day before the XC race at Jarrahdale, but we are keen to tie this event in with bikeweek, as our friend Agusta says (that guy seems to know a lot).

Planning is now in full swing. Watch this space for more details about what should be a great day of all thing mtb.

As well as officially opening the trail at 1130, we will be organising a variety of activities throughout the morning. See below for details:

Skills Clinics

AvantiPlus Cannington will be running two skills clinics. These will be of one hour duration and will cater to the beginner handling some fundamentals skills. The first clinic will start at 0830 and the second at 1000. The maximum number of participants for each clinic is 20. You must come equiped with your own working mountain bike and bike helmet. The cost to take part is $10 per person, which includes a MTBA day social licence. Registration before the day is required.

Bike Maintenance Clinics

AvantiPlus Cannington will also be running two Basic Bike Maintenance sessions. This is not a chance to get your bike fixed but a demonstration covering trail side mechanics. These will be of 30 minutes duration starting at 0930 and 1030. The maximum number of participants for each clinic is 20. The cost to take part is $5 per person. Registration before the day is required.

Guided Rides on the Kalamunda Circuit

For intermediate riders and above WAMBA with the help of Speedlite Cycles will be offering guided rides on the newly completed Kalamunda Circuit. The rides will be approximately 2.5 hours in length, commencing at 0800. The cost of the rides is $8 to cover a MTBA day social licence. You must come equiped with your own working mountain bike and bike helmet. Registration before the day is required.
The following groups will be available (we will run more than one of each if required):

Women only

To register for any of the above events click here:

Bike Demos

AvantiPlus Cannington will be bringing along a range of their dual suspension mountain bikes that will be free to demo throughout the morning. All you need to provide is a driving licence and credit card.

Trail Opening and Sausage Sizzle

Upon completion of the morning rides and clinics we will be officially cutting the ribbon and opening the Kalamunda Circuit. This will be followed by a sausage sizzle.

There are still places left on the skills and maintenance courses. Please pass this on to any friends you have - especially any beginners or those keen to get in to riding.

There is an article about the trail opening in the Bikeweek special in today's West Australian newspaper - so these places could fill up fast!

What a great day at the Camel Farm.
There was about 50 riders out on the organised rides plus people at the skills and mechanics clinics. Avanti Cannington provided test bikes and everyone seemed to be enjoying them.
The Sausage sizzle was a hit and the Kalamunda Circuit was officially opened by the Kalamunda Shire President Donald McKechnie.
The WAMBA AGM was a success With John Barton elected as the President and Lindsay Alsop as Vice President. There was about 12 people that joined the committee, lots of enthusiastic people to promote trails and mountain biking.
I think it was a very successful day.

The biggest thanks of all should go to Jake. (Jake-WAMBA)
Jake did a huge amount of work getting this day organised, applying for the bike week grant, organising basically everything.
Well done Jake for your huge commitment to the day and thanks to everyone who helped out.

Scratchy's picture

If you didn't get your special Kalamunda Circuit T-shirts Jake should hopefully have a couple left over at the Jorganson 4hr next weekend. $30 red or blue get in quick.

Well done everyone.
