Trail maintenance at Marrinup and Turner Hill
Jamie Campbell Trails will be carrying out maintenance and repairs on both the Marrinup and Turner Hill trails over the next month or so. The work will generally be carried out during the week and left open on the weekends. For your safety please obey any on trail signage and respect any trail closures that may occur.
This maintenance is part of PMBC's commitment to help preserve, maintain and enhance our precious trail network for years to come.
Cheers

Rode Turner hill about a month ago such a great track.
Kyra and I rode the Marrinup short and long loop today, the track is looking great with many improvements from last year.
thanks to those who have worked hard on the track, great job.
The race committee rode the track this morning and it is a super course, with great improvements from Jamie.
Well done sir and thanks for all the hard work.
I cannot wait to see what you do with the large log over on the shot loop.
Keep up the great work.
MPN
love the work done and it will make for a great day next week for Mtb race muchly appreciated
Planning on hitting marrinup and turners on Friday are they both rideable or will we be in the way.
Thanks for your positive feedback, I will be finishing off the outer loop at Marrinup this week but unfortunately I will not get to the inner(short)loop before the race next Sunday. The plan at this stage is to finish the outer loop at Marrinup and then concentrate on pimping Turner Hill before that race, I will then head back to finish off the work at Marrinup. It just means you have an excuse to go back and ride Marrinup once all the work has been completed and yes I do have some special plans for the short loop
Please feel free to ride the trails when you want to, I will generally have signage out on the trail warning you if I am working in the area and it is unlikely I will need to close down any sections of trail.
Cheers

Thanks
WAMBAPMBC and Jamie for the work to Marrinup. I rode it on the weekend and loved how the track feels more like a MTB track with some jumps and obstacles. After all, that's what MTB'ing is all about; going over stuff, jumping and just carrying on like a kidOn that note, I'd like to suggest one small thing. Is there any chance that A and B Lines can be designed to give the A Line the advantage where that is possible?
My reasoning is two-fold:
1. It's a MTB trail and one half of MTB'ing is skills, while the other (in XC) is fitness. Skills should be rewarded by making A Lines quicker.
2. Giving people the option of an A & B Line, and making the A Line quicker, encourages people to learn skills. If the B Line is just as quick, riders have very little motivation to try obstacles and learn how to do them.
I used to think it was all about the speed, until I had to learn the obstacles at Pemberton. Since then, I've been having sooooo much more fun on the bike AND I've got quicker because I concentrated on skills. If it wasn't for the Pemberton course, I probably wouldn't have seen a need to learn
I like/agree the comments about A & B Lines.
I think it is also important to ensure that younger riders/kids, that go out with their parents for a blast in the bush have the ability to 'go around the big stuff'!
I disagree that the more technical line should be faster. Most people have valid reasons for not doing "techninal" stuff, for example if you're older or less fit you fear hurting yourself or you may be on the wrong type of bike. If I'm made to feel "second class" because I'm not inclined to endanger myself on technical stuff I'll go ride somewhere else.
I disagree with Zoom.
For a race track the better rider should always get the advantage. This is standard build practice everywhere in the world. The slower rider wanting to get faster can work on their fitness and their skills so they can attempt the harder line. Most B lines in WA don't seem to punish the B line rider nearly as much as what I've seen elsewhere. IE. at Fox Creek in South Australia there is a wood drop. Under racing circumstances this creates a great passing opportunity as the B line at least 5 seconds slower.
This is a race track under race circumstances (Marrinup and Turner Hill are also tracks designed for competition racing). We aren't calling it the chicken line (like they do/did in DH) and riding is about progression and the sense of accomplishment we get from challenging ourselves. If you can't do it on a social ride, who cares? I do have concerns about B lines that are faster than A lines (the first obstacle east from the Camelfarm is a good example) with the B line being much faster. There is no incentive for riders to attempt the risk/reward of the harder line (over the stump) so the track is dumbed down and some riders will never attempt the log over because there is no point to, which is not good. The whole flow of all the technical features on Joeys line going from the Camelfarm is broken (ie it's faster to just avoid the obstacles like 95% of riders do).
B lines should cater for riders not attempting the A line but as elsewhere in the world of MTB trail design the A line rider should have the advantage of a faster line (and right of way in a race situation).
Oh and thanks also to PMTBC is also needed as they are a big part of this work.
The committee of PMBC felt it was was important to put some of the clubs money back into the trails we race on. So we have engaged Jamie Campbell to carry out this maintenance at Marinup and Turner Hill on behalf of PMBC. in a nutsehell, PMBC are paying Jamie to do this work.
We are also looking at more maintenance and weed spraying at the Goat Farm in the near future as well.
Jamie has some great plans for Forsyth Mill as well and PMBC will be looking at putting some funding into this project as well.
Jake and Linsday are doing an awesome job at WAMBA, but I just thought I would clear up where this maintenance stemed from.
Happy riding.
So all those times I have payed for a race then had to pull out have been worth while.... lol. Cheers Tony
I would also like to clarify that PMBC are solely responsible for the instigation and funding of the maintenance at Marrinup, and it is much appreciated.
Predominently the "A" lines at Marrinup are faster but there are some TTF's that have been reinstated next to the main trail that are there purely for fun and variety. Also before someone posts up, the trail features will be kept smallish and not highly technical to conform to the trails "Green/Blue" rating.
I will never please everyone but hopefully the majority will like the changes/improvments, again this is a family/school group style trail and thus will be designed as such,
Turner Hill on the other hand is a different ball game
Cheers

Hi Jamie,
thanks for your response and for letting us know your reasoning too, much appreciated. It's great to be reminded of the track's purpose and rating and how that affects what TTF's it has. The more us 'punters' know about the subject of trail building, the more satisfied we will be with the results I reckon.
Sounds awesome that turners will have some upgrades. Will we see some new ttf,s and lines .
There is plans for some new TTF's, and some of the existing TTF's improved. No new lines planned at this stage but that could change. Upgrades to the "Double Trouble" area with both lines being improved.
Cheers

WAMBA have decided to top up the money that PMBC are paying Jamie Campbell.
These extra funds will allow Jamie to complete some improvements that riders will really appreciate, specifically at the "Double Trouble" area where both the A and B lines will get an upgrade.
Double the money for Double Trouble, can we have some Quad gap lines please Jamie. Awesome on both parties.
Hi Tony,
apologies for getting that mixed up. A simple message to me and I would have corrected the post, as I have already done.
Cheers
How are things progressing at turners. Will it be worth a visit in the next week or two.
