International Race Insurance
I'm off to Race in the BC Bike Race in Canada in a month and I'm struggling to find an insurance company that will cover me.
Many do "adventure sports" insurance, but there always seesm to be a caveat to exclude racing.
Anybody tackled this one before or got any ideas?

International license through Cycling Australia might be the go. Not sure if it works for MTB but its what you get when racing the road in Europe. Check out the CA website.
I was in the same boat and was given a heads up for BUPA.
Attached is the email I got from them.
I signed up for this insurance yesterday.

Yes the only options seem to be through Cycling Australia or BUPA. However be aware that BUPA is a Denmark Insurer and if something goes wrong when its time to claim, you do not have the protection of current Australian regulatory enforcement as they are not licensed in Oz.
We are insurance brokers asking the question of Oz insurers as to why residents of UK can but such insurance in the UK, but residents of Oz cannot buy it in Oz ??? Do we still have convict status ?
