Get a proper bike fit.
Not one from a bike shop, but one from a physio or sports scientist who specialises in bike fits. They're not cheap, but the relief is worth a million bucks.

Hey timepoor, I suffer neck pain from previously broken neck and can understand what back pain can do to you. I stretch everyday and see physio about once a month. Your not alone mate Smiling I find that stretching everyday is a good habit to get into.
Hope this helps mate

thanks Diggedy, yeah I stretch alot, but feel comuting everyday and then sitting down at the desk all day has done wonders for reducing my core strength.I'm going to lose the heavy back pack and see if i can sort out some core strngth exercises, along with physio.
yeah made the mistake of going to a Chiro for a while there, made my wallet lighter! but me back still aches Smiling

Just had a bike fit at Trysport Gym Bassendean.
I'd like to say that for a basic fit at $50 (wanted intermediate fit but rear tyre was to wide for his machine)
Brilliant. Andrew did a full comprehencive mesure of by body and limbs
check my flexability and adjusted my bike to suit(seat, seat hight.recomended shorten bars)even recomended type of frame to suit my body proportions
Also recomended a podiastris. about 45 minutes worth

Highly recomended, cant wait to go for a ride

Budgie (Andrew) at Trysaport also very good at coaching and creating training regimes for MTB and roadies.

If you are sitting at a desk for long time at work - make sure you stretch every 30 mins or so. Set up the aalrm on the comp to remind you. If you have an office even core exercises in the office can be done in 15 mins without raising a sweat.

some good racks and pannier setups available, think there is a couple aimed at carrying laptops, Deuter and Topeak are reliable brands - just make sure rack fits your machine.
