Ending late at night isn't so appealing, as who wants to try and pack up and drive home in the middle of the night when completely knackered?

Well firstly it'd have to be renamed if it was anything other than dusk til dawn & I too wouldn't like to drive home knackered late at night.
That said, it would be nice to have some laps with light so perhaps someone will try an 18hr some time.

The Round-tu-it in Northcliffe is 5 pm til 11 pm & is nice but as it's on a campsite most sleep the night.

I used to do the UK Mountain Mayhem 24hr a while back & even as a four that amount of riding & lack of sleep tested all of us physically & mentally, I drove home from a couple of them in a caffeine haze with impending cramp & seriously wondered about my ability to react to an emergency driving situation. Not recommended.

For those of you who haven't noticed, Martin likes to challenge the norm. His intentions are 100% positive and he's looking to the future to improve the club. Ideas like this are the only way to improve. If you don't challenge anything, try something new, you won't improve. Keep you the good work mate!

Both comments above have hit the nail on the head. Why does everyone drive home at 7am after doing 12hrs on the saddle? Its crazy and as event organiser this was a weight on my shoulders I didn't enjoy. Nobody is going to pack up their tent in the middle of the night, that would be in the too hard basket. Perfect! Everyone is safe for the night. Those with any remaining energy might party for a bit and then everyone hits the hay.

I like 12 noon-12 midnight.

I think it is perfect as it is.

Arrive, setup in daylight. Race, descend into dusk. Finish in the dawn light.

I think an important part is that a great amount of the ride is at night. It's like a big Saturday night out that happens to start firing up in the arvo and you get home Sun morn, safely because we are all responsible adults.

The only other option that would interest me would be a 6am to 6pm, like some of the epic celebratory Christmas/Birthday rides. The 6pm part is arriving home, hosed.

As a first timer this year I really enjoyed the event but like Ash says Martins attempt to stimulate conversation and to look forward is very positive. Change stimulates interest and its always good to look at events and think about what might work better. I also was concerned about driving home in the morning feeling pretty wasted and I only did four laps in a team of three and I still got Littlefair to drive me home hahaha.

But seriously while changing the name may be a shame the 12pm to 12 am then a party/sleep then presentations in the morning with a big bbq breakfast would be a fantastic alternative. You still get 4 hours of night riding and some sleep so the next day is not a complete write off especially for those doing the solo trip.

On a thanks note you did a great job this year Ash and co and the event to me ran really well, I think next year whatever the format a live DJ like at the red bull shootout c2c would be pretty cool and I will be commiting to being more involved this year myself to try and make the club and events even better.

thats my thoughts for what they are worth Smiling

As a club we have to listen to each other and accept positive/negative feedback.

We are here to race, develop and grow, to do this I want to hear feedback and ideas.

Apart from sitting down and emailing each person, I will be using this poll to take on board your thoughts and guidance, some polls may seem crazy, but it gives us insight into what you would like to see, so watch this space in the coming months, we will be listening to your views.

after reading people comments and also having help setup the event from the previous year, i can totally agree with the thoughts and stress of people driving home after the night with no sleep and physically and mentally shattered.
I like the idea of a 10am - 10pm format, with presenations and party straight after..
For thos who want to go home; they can, for those who want to party and compare riding stories late into the night; they can, and for those who are plain knackered and want to sleep, with the help of earplugs...well they can to.

this year was my first year at the event . i think we wer blessed with mild weather.

for any daytime riding eg 10am-10pm we could all be faced with high heat.

i voted for 6-6 same as what has been run.

the other thing that needs to be considered is alot of people work saturday's

there is a 6hr event for the daytime riders .. its nice to have a night riding event , as thats part of the fun

Driving home in the daylight after a 12 hour race is not the same as driving home in the nighttime after a 12 hour race.
I wouldn't consider driving home in the middle of the night. (Speaking from a soloist's perspective.)

I also wouldn't want to hang out and "party"... Your list of options misses out those who want to shower and eat a shedload of good food and then sleep in a nice comfy quiet bed and then wake up and eat a lot more and then sleep again.

Are we big enough to expand the infrastructure to include mobile showers and food vendors?

..but haven't really considered the safety considerations.

The reason I love the current format is the 3am laps. The ones where you start counting how many spiders are running alongside the track and confuse the possums as you ride past. It's usually nice and cool, the track seems less crowded, and it's just a really enjoyable time to ride.

+1 for the idea of an 18-hour or 24-hour event in jarrahdale as well. The one in Northcliffe is ok, but cutting a 6 hour drive out of the equation would be so much better.

I agree with Moose...those 3am loops are what I really love, when else do you get to ride at 3am? Also +1 for an 18 hour or 24 hour event closer to Perth
