State Championships - Goat farm

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The 2007 State Championships will be held over the 20-21st October at the Goat Farm, Greenmount. The event is shaping up to be even bigger and better than last year, which was a huge weekend.

VOLUNTEERS - We are asking for any parents, partners or anyone who is not planning on racing who can help out with the event to please contact us and let us know when you will be available to help. We cannot make this event happen without support as most of the organisers are racers themselves. Anyone interested please email dh@perthmtb.com

We have some pretty big name sponsors again this year, Carine/Cottesloe Cycles have come on board as the DH sponsors, while Cyclemania North Perth have come in as the XC sponsor for the second year running.

Goat farm DH Busy Bee

There will be a busy bee this Saturday 29th September to make changes and do some patch up work to the DH track in preparation for the State Champs. We are calling for anyone who can help to come along and lend a hand to get it done. It is also a good opportunity for anyone wanting to see how these sorts of things happen, or any new people to the sport wanting to meet people and see how it all works.

We will be starting at 10:00 and finishing around 4:00 to do some riding. Any help will be greatly appreciated, as the event is coming up quick and we have been waiting a while for a fine weekend to get it done.

Thanks

Bryn

Club Race 23rd September.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All,

The race for this weekend the 23rd of September is to be held at the Goat Farm. The Goat Farm, is located on the eastern side of Greenmount Rise, Greenmount. (As you proceed East on Great Eastern Hwy up the hill, when you reach Scott Street on your RHS, Greenmount Rise is the next right.) See here for a Google Map.
Parking will be in at the Goat Farm. The course will be a new course and this is good practice for the coming state championships. This is the last club race for the year for PMBC, but not the last club activity for the year.

Rego 7.30 to 8.45 am

Under 13 = 9.00 am (20 minutes + 1 lap)

Turner Hill Track Building weekend

On the weekend of 6th & 7th of October the club will be having a track building session at Turner Hill in Dwellingup. This is one of the best tracks and the upgrades will help to remove some of the old rutted out sections and also some part of the step fire road climb out the back. The changes have been approved by DEC and Clinton from DEC will be joining us for part of the weekend to watch over proceedings.

Track building legend Jamie Campbell is the mastermind behind the changes so it is sure to be a fun track.

I am informed that there is now a toilet at Turner Hill as well as plans for a bigger neater car park. Some people will be camping over night so that they can enjoy as muhc trail building and riding as possible.

Please let me know here if you can make the weekend as the more helpers we have the more we can get done.

John

Bennett takes out Ultra Mega Epic

Congratulations to club member Tim Bennett who won the Flight Centre Peppers Ultra Epic. This is a 200km mountain bike race held in Queensland over Saturday and Sunday last weekend.

The ride consists of two 100km days. Riding the same course out on Saturday and back on Sunday. At the end of Saturday Tim, riding for the Flight Centre Scott Bikes team, sat second to current World 24hr champion Craig Gordon but was able to take the victory on Sunday when Gordon suffered a mechanical. This allowed Tim to ride on to victory by over 20 minutes.

This is Tim's second Epic victory and shows he is still at the top of the Australian mountain bike scene.

Well done Tim!

WAMBA receives $110,000 in Lotterywest Funding

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

WAMBA has received $110,000 in the 2007 round of Department of Sport and Recreation/Lotterywest funding to be used over three exciting projects.

The next stage of the Goatfarm Mountain Bike Park has received $75,000. This will be used for signage and the installation of concrete flyovers as well as the design of further trails, rock gardens and a children?s track near the creek.

The long running Kalamunda Circuit upgrade and realignment project has received $15,000. This is an exciting step forward in the planning of this trail. Plans have recently been submitted to the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and hopefully we will see the building on this project start before the end of the year. This trail is built for all levels of mountain biker and is designed as a recreational trail with future possibility for a race circuit.

Club DH #4 - Dwellingup

Details for the last club DH round at Tom's Crossing are now up under DH Race Announcements

We also need a couple of Volunteers to drive the shuttle busses. They are only 12 seaters, so you don't need a special licence. It would be good to get a couple of drivers locked in before the race, so if there are any parents who can help out please email me at dh@perthmtb.com. We will also be needing a few marshals on the day so anyone who can help please email me.

Thanks
Bryn
