WA RIDERS TAKE ON NATIONAL MTB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to all the WA MTBer’s who took on National Championships on 13 - 16th March in Mt. Buller Victoria.
Racing started on Thursday for the relay (XCR); Rock and Roll Juniors Jess Wardle, Travis Wardle, Alex Terrell and Jacob Goodacre came 2nd in the Junior Relay and took out 1st for the Club Relay.
Friday was the Short Course (XCC), riders took on a fast course through the centre of Mt. Buller, with a tough climb each lap coming into the start finish. Results were as follows:
- Flynn Schmid: 4th U13 Boys
- Alayla Schmid: 2nd U15 Girls
- Jess Wardle: 5th U15 Girls
- Alex Terrell: 5th U17 Boys
- Travis Wardle: 6th U17 Boys
- Jacob Goodacre: 19th U17 Boys
- Connor Wright: 1st U19 Men
- Elliot Wardle: 5th U19 Men
- Colin McCrory: 3rd Masters 9
- Tony Tucknott: 3rd Masters 7
- Cam Schmid: 4th Masters 3
- Cam De Campi: 5th Masters 3
- Sarah Tucknott: 7th Elite Women
- Lucy Hill: 11th Elite Women
- Reece Tucknott: 9th Elite Men
Our courageous U13/U15 raced their XCO on Saturday in sunny conditions.
- Flynn Schmid: 4th U13 Boys
- Alayla Schmid: 2nd U15 Girls
- Jess Wardle: 8th U15 Girls (after an unfortunate crash and mechanical, Jess showed great determination to still finish the race albeit on foot).
Weather conditions took a turn for the worse on Sunday and the schedule and course had to be changed on the morning of the race. Riders faced severe wind, cold, rain and fog on a 2.8km course, everyone showed a lot of resilience to race in such terrible conditions.

- Reece Tucknott: 3rd Elite Men
Also a special mention to Roly and Gus Kyme who took on the Downhill and finished 13th/16th respectively in Elite.
Now we look forward to State Championships in Bindoon on 6th April.
